What does a business account cost in 2026?

Bank or neobank, sole trader or limited company, three transfers a month or three hundred. Here are the actual prices from the providers' own pages, what really moves the bill, and the cost that never appears on the price list.

The short answer

A Danish business account costs somewhere between roughly 80 kr. and 500 kr. a month, depending on provider and tier, plus a setup fee of 0 kr. to about 1.500 kr. The big banks cluster around 139–259 kr. a month for a package with account, card and online banking. The neobanks span from around 240 kr. to just under 500 kr., with the cheapest tier often carrying the setup fee that the dearer tiers waive.

Every figure below comes from the providers' own price pages, checked in September 2026. They change, so treat them as a map of the terrain, not a quote. That is enough for the thing that matters: seeing whether an offer sits in the normal range, and knowing what to ask before you sign.

Above all

The monthly fee is the smallest part of what an account costs you. The larger part is the hours you spend matching what came in against what you sold. That never appears on a price list. More on that further down.

What actually drives the price

Two accounts that both say "business account" can be far apart in what you end up paying, and both be fair. The difference sits in one of these five places:

  • The package, not the account. You rarely pay for the account alone. You pay for a bundle of account, card, online banking and sometimes advice. The tier decides the price more than the bank does.
  • Transfers. Some packages include a fixed number of free domestic transfers a month and charge per transfer above that. A business paying many suppliers can blow past the headline fee on transfers alone.
  • Cards. How many physical and digital cards are included, and what an extra one costs. Relevant the moment you have staff who buy things.
  • Setup and billing rhythm. A 0 kr. setup fee is often tied to the dearer tier, and "billed annually" means the whole year up front. Both change what the first year actually costs.
  • Advice and support. Access to a human adviser is part of what the big banks price in. If you will never use it, you are paying for it anyway.

Sole trader or limited company

For a sole proprietorship there is, as a rule, no legal requirement for a separate business account. You can run the business through a private account. Almost nobody should. The moment private and business transactions share an account, every VAT return and every accountant's hour gets slower, because each entry has to be sorted by hand afterwards. A separate account costs less than those hours.

For a limited company (ApS or A/S) the picture is different: the company's capital has to sit in an account in the company's own name, so a business account is part of setting the company up in the first place.

One thing worth knowing either way: every business in Denmark has the right to a basic business account at a Danish bank. A bank can decline the extras, but not the basic account itself. If you are turned down, that is the rule to point to.

Cheapest is not the same as cheapest

A worked example. Take the two cheapest headline prices in the table: a package at about 83 kr. a month with a 500 kr. setup fee, and one at 139 kr. with none. Over the first year the "cheap" one costs roughly 1.500 kr. and the "dearer" one roughly 1.670 kr. Close. Now add ten supplier transfers a month at a per-transfer fee, and the ranking can flip entirely.

That is the whole point. The number on the front page is the price of the package, not the price of your usage. Count your transfers, your cards and your first-year setup, and compare on that total. It takes ten minutes and is the only comparison that means anything.

The cost most people overlook

If you take card payments, the money from your terminal or POS lands in your account as a settlement. It arrives as one lump, often a day later, often net of fees, and with a reference that has nothing to do with the sales it came from. Then someone has to match the two. In many small businesses that someone is the owner, at the end of the month, with two statements side by side.

That is a cost. Not a fee, but hours, and they scale with how many days you trade. It is the reason we are building SEJR Konto as an account reconciled with SEJR Pay: the sale and the incoming payment carry the same reference, so the month closes on a match instead of an evening with receipts. The price is published before we open. What the reconciliation is worth to you, you can already estimate: count the hours you spend on it now.

Checklist before you open one

  • 1 What is the first-year total: setup plus twelve months, at your billing rhythm?
  • 2 How many domestic transfers are included, and what does one cost above that?
  • 3 How many cards are included, and what does an extra one cost?
  • 4 Is there a lock-in, and what does it cost to leave?
  • 5 Does it integrate with your bookkeeping, and does the integration cost extra?
  • 6 If you take card payments: how does the settlement land, and can it be matched to the sales without doing it by hand?

If a provider can answer all six clearly, you are comparing on an honest basis.

Frequently asked questions

Who has the cheapest business account?

On the headline monthly fee, the classic online-banking packages and the cheapest neobank tiers sit lowest, typically under 150 kr. a month. But "cheapest" depends on how many transfers and cards you use, and whether there is a setup fee. An account at 139 kr. with a fee per transfer can end up dearer than one at 245 kr. with transfers included. Calculate on your own usage, not the sticker price.

Which bank is best for a business account?

There is no single answer. The big banks offer advice and breadth, the neobanks offer fast digital onboarding and an app overview, and specialised providers offer integration with what you already use, such as bookkeeping or your POS. Choose by what your business actually does every day, and by the combined price for your usage.

Do I need a business account for my sole proprietorship?

As a rule there is no legal requirement for a separate account for a personally owned business. But it is strongly recommended: you separate private and business, VAT and expenses become easier to document, and your accountant spends fewer hours. If you run a limited company (ApS or A/S) the situation differs: the company capital must sit in an account in the company's own name.

What does a business account cost at a bank?

At the large Danish banks a business account typically runs from around 139 kr. to 259 kr. a month for a package with account, card and online banking, often with a discount or 0 kr. setup for existing private customers. Some banks instead charge a fixed amount per quarter plus a setup fee. The figures here come from the banks' own pages in September 2026 and change over time.

Can I use my private account for the business?

For a sole proprietorship you technically can, but most banks would rather you did not, and it makes your bookkeeping and VAT returns needlessly hard. Mix private and business, and every single entry has to be separated by hand later. A separate business account costs less than those hours.
